Possible Worn Rings or Burned Valve?
Hey Guys,
I just got through replacing the valve stem seals on my 97 Turbo Supra. I used the toyotool to install/remove them and compressed air in the spark plug hole to keep the valves from dropping. When I was on cylinders 5 and 6 I had problems keeping them aired up. My air compressor fittings were leaking a bit ( but not anymore than the rest of the cylinders that didn't have this issue ) I took the air compressor quick disconnect off the spark plug hole and usually the force of air in the cylinder would cause you not to keep your finger on it. In cylinders 5 and 6 I could actually keep my thumb on the compressor hose threaded into spark plugs 5 and 6. To find TDC we finally had to resort to using a metal rod in the spark plug hole. We watched the metal rod go up and down. We were able to about perfectly see if we were TDC. Once we did this I was able to get enough air in the cylinder to keep the valve up while I replaced the valve stem seal. 1. Does this mean I might have a burned valve? 2. Does this mean my rings could be shot on these 2 cylinders? Important things to note: Car before tear down ran perfectly smooth. No oil consumption issues. Always clean oil out of engine. No Oil in coolant. My thoughts are I should do a leak down test. Is it possible to do this with the cams out? Thanks, Randy Last edited by pwr4all : 01-31-2010 at 07:31 PM. |
